Project Update

Master Architectural Millwork

Started in 1986, Eppink of California, Inc. is a high-end architectural millwork firm and a custom boutique shop. Though their main projects are tenant improvements, high-end residential and hospitality, Eppink provided their expert services for the UC Irvine Bldg 54 project by completing the millwork at the executive offices and conference center. The beautiful walnut finish is found throughout the space from the doors and wall paneling to the window sills and trims to the main reception desk. Thanks to Eppink the project was completed on time and conveyed the elegance of the intended design.

UC Irvine Medical Center – Executive Suite

In recent months, PDA had been hard at work on a newly completed project at UC Irvine Medical Center campus. The penthouse floor of the brand-new Bldg. 54 Lab Building consists of executive suites, boardroom and a conference center. The facility is designed to meet LEED Silver requirements and is outfitted with top quality finish materials such as poured epoxy terrazzo flooring, hand-troweled plaster walls and custom quarter-sawn American Walnut wood veneer paneling. One of the special features is a custom fiber optic “night sky” to recreate the constellations on the founding day of the UCI School of Medicine.

Santa Monica Office Remodel

Pickett Design Associates is currently working with its client, Bill Rehwald of Hopa Broadway LLC and the general contractor, Rod Spector to remodel a 1,200 sf commercial space. The project scope is to update the building with new windows, skylights, exterior lighting, entry door, awning and stairs along with a new layout incorporating a contemporary interior design aesthetic. Located in Santa Monica, California, the space will be headquarters to the client’s many businesses, including an automobile leasing company. Having a longstanding relationship with the Rehwald family, former owner of Simonson Mercedes Benz in Santa Monica, PDA is proud to continue to serve as designer and project manager for this project.

Unique Ceiling Element

On a recent visit to Studio Lilica, Christine met with Carl Royce to view the full-size mockup of the suspended fabric ceiling system for the UC Davis Telemedicine Resource Center. The piece is custom designed and will use architectural lighting to create a luminous fabric surface. This design element softens the environment, improves the acoustics and will be hung along the main public corridor on each floor of the new building.

UC Davis Telemedicine Resource Center

Working under the architectural team at Lee, Burkhart, Liu, Inc., the construction of the new 50,000 sf UC Davis Telemedicine Resource Center is right on schedule to be completed Sprint 2012. Located adjacent to the completed School of Medicine Education Building, this new facility will be (self-certified) LEED Silver and will feature “smart” classrooms, mock exam rooms, a medical simulation suite, trainer stations, a production studio and associated administrative offices and support space. The facility will be outfitted with state-of-the-art technology for medical simulation teaching and community outreach to rural California communities.
