UCLA Semel Institute Sneak Peek!

Pickett Design Associates’ talented Interior Designer Stephanie Ramirez was at the UCLA Semel Institute recently to preview the team’s finished work on its Integrative Phenotyping Center for Neuropsychiatry. The renovation involved more than 40,000 square feet on four floors of the Semel Institute tower, and the state-of-the-art space will provide modern facilities for investigators to achieve breakthroughs in the understanding, prevention, and treatment of severe brain disorders. PDA partnered with Zakian Woo Architects and other project consultants to create a flowing, light-filled – yet highly functional – interior workspace. In the photo above Stephanie is posing next to an impactful oversized custom sliding door of rich wood grain. We’ll post more photos of this exciting project soon!

Team Member Spotlight: Jesus Urciaga

Jesus Urciaga joined the Pickett Design Associates team as its AutoCAD and Revit renderer in February 2014…and in fact began work the same day as his employment interview, but had to cut short his first day in order to pick up his marriage license!  Shortly thereafter Jesus was a newlywed on his honeymoon.

Before marriage and career, Jesus obtained his Bachelor of Architecture from Woodbury University.  A Southern California native, his first job out of school involved creating proposal videos for a company that provided airplane sets for Hollywood movies.  It was there that he learned Lumion (3D Architectural Visualization Software), which would prove to be an unexpected and valuable asset to Pickett Design Associates years later!

Jesus went on to fine-tune his AutoCAD skills as part of a large team at the headquarters of a major theme park, but waved “goodbye” to the entertainment world when an opportunity arose at Pickett Design Associates, an interior design firm in Culver City that has close partnerships with its project architects.

Jesus brings many valued skills to PDA, but his “fly-through” videos of project renderings provide a unique service, as they help the entire team – as well as the client and partnering consultants – envision each new job.

Take a peek at this talented team member’s work on PDA’s recent Northbay Medical Center Pavilion project!

AIA/LA Healthcare Committee Tours LA County High Desert Regional Health Center

Christine and Linda toured the LA County High Desert Regional Health Center with the AIA/LA Healthcare Committee on Saturday May 17th. Pickett Design Associates participated as the Interior Design Consultant to the Design Build Team. This very special (141,000 sq ft.) project is located in Lancaster, CA. and opens in July 2014.

Construction is Challenging!

UCLA is on the move renovating existing space on three levels of the Clinical Research Wing in the Center for the Health Sciences building. This renovation will ultimately support the expansion of telemedicine activities, improve patient access to healthcare and support expanded medical school enrollments for Programs in Medical Education.

Linda Conley meets with the Architect and General Contractors and then walks the job site.

This project includes PRIME administrative offices, and telepathology consultation and laboratory support services space in the CHS.  Telepathology is the practice of pathology at a distance. It uses telecommunications technology to facilitate the transfer of image-rich pathology data between distant locations for the purposes of diagnosis, education, and research. The telepathology component will improve clinical care by giving patients from underserved locations throughout Southern California access to specialized consultation and diagnostic services at UCLA.
